Enabling clinicians to be clinicians

URL Copied!

Do you ever wonder what providers are really doing throughout their day? Yes, they’re seeing patients, documenting visits and ordering prescriptions—but the reality is that most of their time is consumed by clerical tasks. In fact, this study found that primary care providers spend only 24% of their time face-to-face with patients, while the other 76% is spent on documentation and administrative work. Over 90% of these providers reported that their time was being wasted and called for EHR platforms to be more efficient and intuitive.

Sunrise™: The flexible EHR for the outcomes you want

This imbalance has a profound impact. It drains provider well-being, fuels burnout and ultimately affects the quality of patient care. For EHR vendors everywhere, the challenge is clear: we must help close this gap by giving clinicians tools that make their work simpler, not harder.

Changing the game

At Altera Digital Health, our vision is to enable clinicians with the right tools so they can focus on what matters most—caring for patients. Usability is at the core of that mission. We prioritize eliminating unnecessary clicks and streamlining workflows so providers can accomplish more with less friction.

Clinicians need solutions that work with them, not against them. They should be spending more time in front of patients, not behind screens. That’s why we partner closely with healthcare organizations to provide tools that are not only powerful but practical—tools that help restore balance and help clinicians practice medicine the way they intended. In fact, with the recent release of Sunrise™ 25.1, we’ve delivered updates guided directly by client feedback.

Looking ahead

We know the future of healthcare requires more than usability improvements alone. That’s why Altera is investing heavily in AI initiatives designed to support clinicians and improve care delivery. For example, we are incorporating AI in ambient listening, which can capture clinical conversations naturally and reduce the documentation burden. We are also exploring how AI can be leveraged to bring the most critical patient information to the forefront, minimizing time spent searching records and maximizing time for patient care.

These are just two examples of the AI projects underway at Altera. Together, with usability enhancements and emerging innovations, they represent our commitment to enhancing efficiency, boosting provider satisfaction and helping reduce burnout. By combining thoughtful design with advanced technology, we aim to give clinicians back what they value most: the ability to be clinicians.
