Allscripts SunriseTM goes live across Gippsland EDs
MELBOURNE – July 2021 – Phase 3 of the Gippsland Health Alliance’s (GHA) EMR Community Health activation has gone live with the Sunrise Emergency Care module (within the Allscripts SunriseTM EMR platform of health) having been successfully extended to the emergency department facilities of the Central Gippsland Health Service, Bairnsdale Regional Health Service (servicing east Gippsland), West Gippsland Healthcare Group and Bass Coast Health.
Todd Haebich, General Manager of Allscripts Australia and New Zealand said that GHA deserves great credit for their vision and achievement, especially considering the complexities and challenges brought about by COVID-19.
“GHA has firmly established itself as one of the pioneers of connected communities of health in Australia and we are enthusiastic about the success that we help them achieve in rolling out SunriseTM across a very sizeable geography and in four EDs simultaneously,” explained Mr. Haebich.
“Gippsland residents can be proud of what GHA has accomplished and it inspires great confidence in the next phase of the rollout which will see SunriseTM go live across inpatient services at the four hospitals,” added Mr. Haebich.
Jon Millar, Chief Information Officer of the Gippsland Health Alliance said that access to the Sunrise Emergency Care module gives ED clinicians an information edge in the dynamic environment of an emergency department.
“Introducing a world-class EMR into our emergency departments supercharges the traditional tracking board by giving clinicians a powerful and intuitive interface which allows them to access vital patient information in only a few clicks,” explained Mr. Millar.
“Every second counts in an Emergency Department so it’s vital the local teams are able to access patient information quickly. All of our staff have been trained and clinician feedback has been very positive,” Mr Millar said.
In October 2020, Allscripts (NASDAQ: MDRX) completed the rollout of its Sunrise EMR platform at the Latrobe Regional Hospital (LRH). The EMR went live in the Latrobe 30-bed ED in April 2019 and is fully functional across inpatient services at LRH and Community Mental Health services across the region. LRH is Gippsland’s specialist referral and trauma centre, located 150km east of Melbourne, and is one of the region’s largest employers with more than 2,100 staff. It is a purpose-built 300-plus-bed teaching hospital caring for a population of more than 260,000 people.
Latrobe is the health IT company’s first implementation of its EMR solution in Victoria and is also one of the first EMRs in Australia to use Microsoft Azure. The cost efficiency, cyber security, infrastructure flexibility and resilience associated with cloud-based systems was a driving force behind the decision by other members of the alliance to extend the Sunrise EMR platform across Gippsland.
The Gippsland Health Alliance (GHA) is a consortium of publicly funded health services in the Gippsland region of Victoria, east of Melbourne, covering some 41,556 square kilometres (16,045 sq mi). Allscripts won the competitive tender to deliver an EMR solution to the Gippsland Health Alliance in late 2017 and Latrobe Regional Hospital (LRH) was selected as the first site in the Alliance to implement the Sunrise EMR clinical suite.
