Altera Opal Continues to Shine in Western Australia
25 May 2023 – Altera Digital Health’s digital medical record, Altera Opal, has gone live at the Rockingham General Hospital, Murray District Hospital and nearby community health centres in Mandurah and Kwinana. All sites now have read/write access to the State-Wide Digital Medical Record powered by Altera Opal.
Rockingham General Hospital is approximately 50 kilometres south of Perth and has an emergency department and operating theatres, as well as medical, surgical and paediatric wards. Murray District Hospital is much smaller, offering inpatient medical services and palliative care to the people of Pinjarra and surrounding areas. The implementation of Altera Opal at these sites signals their transition from paper to digital medical records.
Altera Opal was originally known as BOSSnet, and as a digital medical record, is operational in more than 100 sites in Australia, whilst it is also deployed as a document management solution as part of the Sunrise™ Platform of Health in Australia and the United Kingdom. It is also currently being deployed in the US, Canada, Singapore and the Philippines. All development related to Altera Opal is managed and delivered by a dedicated team in Australia.
Todd Haebich, Executive Vice President APAC for Altera Digital Health, said that Altera Opal continues to prove its worth for organisations looking to transition from paper to digital medical records.
“Altera Opal has been particularly effective in Western Australia, where it has enabled many health sites to embark on their digital journeys, and in doing so, establish an ever-growing community of health that clinicians can leverage to deliver even better healthcare,” explained Mr. Haebich.
He continued, “Through its Scanning and Document Management capabilities, it helps health sites effectively and affordably customise their deployment strategies to suit budget and healthcare needs, delivering clever workflows that support effective health information management and clinical coding. Altera Opal can also seamlessly interface with third-party software.”
Jonathan Smith, Chief Information Officer of Health Support Services (HSS), a WA Government agency supporting the WA public health system, said:
“Over the past year, HSS has been working in collaboration with the Department of Health, Health Service Providers and Altera to implement the Digital Medical Record (DMR) solution at a number of new sites across the state. Implementation of the DMR requires a system-wide collaboration and is a precursor step toward implementing an integrated Electronic Medical Record (EMR), which will further increase the electronic capturing of information at the point of care, reducing paper forms to a minimum. HSS acknowledges the dedication and hard work of the project teams and users involved in the deployment of the DMR at the new sites for their efforts in enabling a successful implementation.”
