Driving data integrity amid the continuing opioid crisis

URL Copied!

Healthcare‘s greatest challenge isn’t lack of data. In many ways, the challenge often lies with having too much data that is fragmented and siloed across disconnected systems. Healthcare Organizations can struggle to access critical information from within their organizations’ systems of record. And with such a vast amount of data swirling around, not having clear, clean, ready access to it can have rippling consequences from bedside to entire populations at large.

The solution? Uncompromised data integrity paired with seamless connectivity. Let’s look at how this can be achieved, and how better data clarity can have a positive impact on the healthcare of an entire population.

How complete, accurate data transforms care delivery

Working with a national health ministry, we’re developing machine learning (ML) algorithms to analyze de-identified patient data and predict negative outcomes, in real time. A good example of this is when a diabetic patient’s blood pressure spikes, our CareIntelligence platform flags it and alerts caregivers of the increased risk for extended stays or readmission risk, but this only works when data from EHRs, labs, medications, vital signs flow together reliably, from disparate sources.

Going further, this impact multiplies at the population level. Our collaboration with a Canadian provincial health agency continues to demonstrate how connected, high-quality data can expose hidden public health crises. By aggregating prescription data across multiple providers, we helped province healthcare leaders detect “opioid shopping” patterns. Simply put, it identifies patients receiving prescriptions from three different sources within 60 days. These insights, visualized through heat maps, guide targeted community interventions.

But here’s the critical truth: None of this works without a high level of data integrity. Incomplete records create blind spots. Inaccurate data leads to false alerts. Disconnected systems leave gaps that put vulnerable populations at risk. More analytics & AI just compound risk.

Bringing healthier populations within reach

To answer this call and to help calm the noise associated with the vast amount of data, we  developed the  CareIntelligence Intelligence Platform. CareIntelligence is a FHIR-enabled data platform unifying clinical, claims and social data into a single, trusted, AI-enabled source of truth. It transforms disconnected information into seamless, interoperable intelligence, empowering healthcare organizations to improve outcomes and operational performance.

When healthcare organizations prioritize data integrity, standardizing formats, validating accuracy, and ensuring completeness—they unlock their true potential. From identifying at-risk patients to addressing community challenges, having clear access to quality data is the foundation upon which healthier futures are built. Learn more here.
